The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe

Artwork by Zhang Jieyu

For this famous horror story, I have drawn the three scenes that stand out in my mind. The first scene is when the hero has just arrived at the house of Usher, and the whole bleak scene foreshadows the tragedy that will follow. I have taken a distant view of the hero arriving at the house of Usher on horseback, reflecting the loneliness of the mansion through the reflection of the pond.

The second scene is the only chance for the hero to see the lady Madeline in the story, and
after this glimpse the lady dies. As her last appearance in front of others, I have drawn skeletal
shadows at her feet to suggest her death.

The third scene is the most powerful in my mind, in the climax of the story, Mr Usher sees his
sister crawl out of the coffin to find him and die in a horrific and eerie atmosphere.I draw the
lady Madeline in Mr Usher's eyes as she comes to take her brother away like the Grim Reaper.
